Economic Freedom Begins with Capital of Your Own

Without ownership of their savings, citizens depend on political promises to manage their future

Freedom Is Defended with Capital in Your Own Hands

We have completed our term at Rotary, and I take away one conviction: if we do not educate new generations in the value of economic freedom, we are lost.
Romantic speeches are not enough; freedom is defended with capital in hand.
That is why individual capitalisation is the mother of all institutional battles.
It is curious.
Those who claim to defend workers are the very same people who oppose workers owning their capital. Is that not contradictory?
Is it not a form of modern slavery for the state to force you to put your money into a fund in which you have neither voice nor vote and which, in the end, guarantees you nothing?
Individual capitalisation, by contrast, is a tool of collective empowerment.
When savings are transformed into productive investment, the whole of society benefits.
We do not need more state plans; we need more people with the power to decide.
We must understand that reforms do not come from the goodwill of politicians; they come from pressure exerted by a society that knows what it wants.
If we combine a serious fiscal rule — one that places real limits on spending — with a body of citizens who safeguard their savings for what they are, their property and their future, the statist state deflates all by itself.
It becomes irrelevant.
And that is what frightens them.
They fear that citizens will discover that they do not need a bureaucrat to manage either their old age or their prosperity.
We have reached a stage at which technology, this “Agentic Revolution”, allows us to audit, monitor and demand answers.
It is time to stop being spectators and become owners.
Because a country is not built on promises to pay; it is built on capital, work and citizens who refuse to let anyone reach into their pockets.
Let us get to work, then, because the Uruguay of the future must be, above all, a country of free citizens!

Savings as property
Capital and personal autonomy
Citizens holding the state to account
