The Eclipse of Political Labels and the Real Divide

An interested division designed to preserve power

For more than two centuries, political debate has been held hostage by a taxonomy as anachronistic as it is fallacious: the division between left, center, and right.
This geometric abstraction, born in the heat of the French Revolution, has not only lost all heuristic value, but today serves a profoundly pernicious function: muddying the field, concealing corporate privileges, and granting carte blanche to demagogues of widely varied appearances.
Today, amid a revolutionary change of era, the geopolitical reality of our own region has taken it upon itself to demolish the old categories.
Latin America’s electoral map is undergoing a Copernican transformation: citizens, weary of corporatist decline, have massively brought to power new governments with liberal and libertarian roots that challenge the statist status quo.
Clinging to old labels is, in this context, an exercise in utter ineptitude. The true dividing line does not run through parliamentary geometry, but through the irreducible antagonism between two models of society and two ways of exercising power.
The failure of coercion as a false good
One of the most eroded pillars of the statist model is the myth of “imposed solidarity.” Under the pretext of supposed social justice, the force of the State has been used to confiscate the fruits of other people’s labor.
Yet history and economic logic have shown that compulsory solidarity is not only a contradiction in terms —solidarity, by definition, requires the will of the individual— but has also failed spectacularly.
State coercion has destroyed the social fabric, replacing a vocation for service with political mendicancy and clientelism, and turning philanthropy into a vulgar mechanism of arbitrary, deceitful, corrupt redistribution that promotes idleness and discourages wealth creation.
From predatory statism to institutionalized kleptocracy
The traditional “left-wing” model, operating under the protection of this forced solidarity, systematically destroys productive resources through confiscatory taxation.
The advocates of this scheme forget that capital does not arise through spontaneous generation, but from the savings, effort, and restraint of the private sector.
By overburdening citizens, the State becomes a parasitic partner. This model needs opacity in order to survive; it multiplies regulations because it knows perfectly well that it is in the darkness of the bureaucratic labyrinth that the friends of power thrive and corruption is concealed.
State inefficiency is the natural habitat of the caste, which, in order to perpetuate itself, also radically obstructs any progress toward constructive change.
The new paradigm: harmony, technology, and creativity
On the opposite side, the paradigm of freedom is emerging with unstoppable force, supported by the new regional winds sweeping across the continent.
In contrast to imposed solidarity, which has brought only misery, genuine social harmony is now flourishing, based on reciprocal respect and voluntary cooperation.
It is an order in which equity is not decreed, but emerges as the result of equality before the law and free competition, pushing the individual toward effort, continuous transformation, and the highest form of aesthetic creativity.
This new historical moment also provides us with formidable disruptive tools.
The incorporation of architectures based on bounded records and algorithmic auditing systems makes it possible to audit public administration in real time, pulverizing the discretionary power of public officials.
This not only guarantees radical transparency, but also unleashes society’s creative energies, allowing genuine culture and human ingenuity once again to become the engines of progress.
The contemporary dichotomy is no longer spatial, but ethical and institutional.
Either the backwardness of predatory statism and false banners of solidarity is validated, or this new cycle of individual freedom, responsibility, and republican rigor that is already sweeping through our region is embraced.
The task is relentless: sweep away the old ideological categories and demand that political power be held accountable, protect rights, and restore to the individual sovereignty over his own destiny, where social harmony is the fruit of free men rather than subjects of a voracious State.
Indoctrination as a means of accumulating power is giving way to the citizen’s responsible freedom. The same freedom that, at the dawn of the Nation, produced the magic of a self-reliant individual who gave rise to a prosperous Republic, fulfilling the promise of quality of life for native society and hardworking expatriates.
