The Metamorphosis of the Left

From Material Failure to the Tyranny of Identity

THE METAMORPHOSIS OF THE LEFT
From Material Failure to the Tyranny of Identity
By Dr. Nelson Jorge Mosco Castellano

There is a recurring tragedy in contemporary political history: when the great economic dogmas of the left collapse under the weight of their own inefficiency, their promises of social redemption turn into sterile exercises in ideological engineering.
Unable to resolve the natural and complex divide between rich and poor—a challenge that empirical reality has shattered time and again in every statist experiment—progressive leaderships have opted for a strategic retreat.
They abandoned the factories, workshops, and macroeconomics, where the poverty they preached about lost by a landslide, to take refuge in the laboratories of culture, finding in the artificial creation of new “oppressed minorities” the perfect lifeline for their political survival and pursuit of power.
The phenomenon is neither accidental nor spontaneous.
It is the product of a calculated mutation precisely analyzed by political scientist Agustín Laje: as the narrative of the proletariat versus the bourgeoisie became exhausted, the left needed to invent new antagonisms to justify its reason for being.
If the economic paradise can no longer be promised by planning production through an armed bureaucracy, then the hell of cultural oppression must be manufactured in every corner of everyday life.

The Invention of the Identity Divide and the Deformation of Language
To sustain this framework, contemporary progressivism has had to subvert the most basic concepts of biology and anthropology.
The foundational milestone of this strategy lies in the artificial separation of sex and gender.
By severing the material, biological, and immutable reality of sex and turning gender into an abstraction entirely shaped by political discourse, the door is opened to radical constructivism.
From this perspective, the deformation of reality has reached extraordinary extremes, such as the imposition of absurd euphemisms: women have come to be defined through esoteric concepts such as “menstruating person” or “gestating bodies.”
By attempting to dilute biological differences in favor of gender fluidity, this neo-progressivism ultimately consummates a brutal irony: the movement that supposedly came to make women visible ends up erasing them completely as legal and biological subjects, mutilating language and female identity in the name of abstract political correctness.

The Business of Grievance and Social Control
The most corrosive aspect of this approach is not the theoretical discussion itself, but its instrumentalization by entrenched power, debased in its positive human application.
By institutionalizing ministries, secretariats, and multimillion-dollar budgets devoted exclusively to managing these “new identities” and their bureaucratic jargon, the left has built a gigantic apparatus of moral clientelism.
Social conflict is actively financed because it is the only thing that legitimizes the existence of that same bureaucracy.
Within this framework, the natural differences between men and women—far from being understood through complementarity and equity for social harmony—are systematically pathologized.
Every traditional order, from the family to the most basic institutions, is labeled a structure of domination that must be “deconstructed.”
The result is an atomized society, intimidated by institutional censorship and the public targeting of dissenters, where disagreement with the dogmas of the new linguistic correctness is punished with civil ostracism.

The Return to Reality
At the end of the day, this drift of the left reveals its most cynical face: the systematic flight from solving real problems.
While endless public resources are spent on semantic battles, ministries and ideological departments, and manuals for renaming human anatomy, real poverty persists, inflation devours wages, and insecurity destroys the social fabric in neighborhoods the State no longer reaches. But the power of the left advances and becomes concentrated, creating a dilemma of false opposition: what is natural is a construction; therefore, differences are ideologically relativized, applying castration to the “enemy.”
A battle that dissolves self-constructed social harmony and confronts politicians with the dilemma of challenging absurdities at electoral risk or tolerating them, which means surrendering to them.
The left exchanged the promise of eradicating poverty for the promise of multiplying grievances against reality.
And along that path, it has demonstrated that its priority is never to improve the lives of the poorest, but to perpetuate itself in power through the artificial division of society.
